If you are unable to update your game to a newer version (if there is a new version), you can try the following:
- Make sure your Google related apps/services are updated first
e.g. https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... play.games
- Try to restart your phone as it may have related services that were updated and requires a restart to be applied
- Make sure that you have enough available free storage on your device
